Got Milk?
I’m old enough to remember the milkman delivering milk to our house. You’d place your order one morning and when you got up the following morning, on your doorstep would be your order of milk. You could get real milk where the cream would rise to the top, in quarts or half gallons. You could get homogenized milk or, a favorite among kids, chocolate milk. And the milk was delivered in recyclable glass bottles. So, it takes getting use to having to go to a store to look for soy milk, or almond milk or rice milk that comes in a box.
Of course, despite the misnomer, these offerings really aren’t milk. While they may be white opaque fluids, a gender female mammal, for the express purpose of feeding her young, did not produce them. They are man-made products, as opposed to natural milk, which we can say is female-made. Hmm, maybe it's why wokers prefer the fake stuff in a box. These man-made products are substitutes for the real thing. We live in the Age of Substitution.
This situation is analogous to mainstream Christianity today. As the apostle Peter wrote in his epistle, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that you may grow thereby.” [1 Pet. 2:2]. But over the centuries, we have pushed aside the real thing and have taken to the artificial products that have boxed us in ... everything from Buddha to bunny rabbits. One would sort of figure that over two thousand years or so we would have a handle on what Christ was all about. We should have grown from the milk of the word of God, to being so strong that we could digest the strongest meat of the truth, rather than our mainstream media choking on it.
But not only have we gotten away from the milk of the original teachings of Christ, we have regressed. We swig down the artificial stuff, the propaganda lies, be they secular or theological. As the apostle Paul wrote, “By now you ought to be teachers, instead you have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat." [Heb. 5:12].
Lest we wish to argue this point, what does it say about Christianity today that its two witnesses are Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny? Christ has become a product label. We’ve made him like the word milk in soy milk or almond milk. It helps sell the product, but it’s really about the soy and the almonds. And it’s really about Santa and the Bunny. [See the updated Feature article, Easter, Babylon And The Antichrist]. Walk into a church the day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday1, in the US. Then walk into a mall … if you can squeeze your way in among the throngs. There’s even an official Black Friday website with merchandise ads organized by store for our convenience. They come complete with coupons and promo codes so we can plan our discounted purchases down to the day and hour, months in advance. How many of us put that kind of effort into being a Christian?
Modern day Christianity is not the Christianity of the first century. And while we may disagree, go to a retail store during the Santa season or just before Easter [Easter Shoes] and ask someone seriously to explain, not what they think, but what the Biblical significance is of birth of Christ or his death and resurrection. Good luck with that. In fact, you'll get asked to leave the store, mask on or not. Of course, what can we expect when our pastors don’t even know what the gospel is, or tell us we are not in end-times prophecies? [Jer. 10:21]. As to what we can expect, look at the world around us. It’s exactly what the prophecies have told us would be our situation for failing to seek our LORD. [See the Feature articles, What Exactly Is The Gospel? and Is The US, And UK In End-times Prophecy?].
We find ourselves as alleged Christians in this very peculiar situation. Not only can we not handle the meat of the word of God, we don’t have the milk of the word either. We’re living off the artificial stuff that has been labeled gentile Christianity. [See the Feature article, Moving Forward]. If you have children of elementary school age, this December ask them to name Santa’s reindeer. Then ask them to name Christ’s apostles. “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” [Pro. 22:6]. In fact, ask yourself the same questions. [See Mat. 10:2-4; Acts 1].
The point of all this is not to humiliate anyone or point out their ignorance just for the sake of doing so. Rather, it’s important for us to be honest with ourselves, so we can make the much needed changes in our Christian lives. Think of it as realtheologik rather than ideological Churchianity. [See the Feature article, You Know You're A Christian When ...]. If we aren’t willing or able to admit that we know more about Santa and the Bunny than we do about what Christ really said and did, then we aren’t doing ourselves any favors. We’re addicted to the fake milk. The first step to recovery is acknowledging and admitting our addiction. We’re Santa and Bunny addicts. And these addictions are killing us. [See the Feature articles, Our Corrupted Compass and And Now, A Word From Our Sponsor].
But, we may be so far off the mark our problem is not obvious to us. To make it obvious, let’s start by asking a simple real milk question. And we’ll make it easy by making it a multiple-choice question.
When the wise men brought Christ gifts, the Bible says he was:
A- a baby in a manger
B- a young child in a house
C- a teenager in a condo
D- an adult living on the street.
If we really don’t know the correct answer, then we’ve been drinking out of a box. If we know the correct answer, and we’ve been going along for Santa’s joyride regardless, then we’ve been drinking out a bottle that makes us think we can live a better life with the lies rather than with the truth. [See Mat. 10:37-39].
As Matthew 2 makes plain and clear, Christ was a young child living in a house when the wise men brought him gifts in respect of his being the king of Israel [John 1:49], and not because he was a birthday boy. “And when they [the wise men] had come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother ….” [Mat. 2:11; see the Feature article, Merry Christmas?].
This is about as skimmed as the real milk gets. But as a religion, we don’t even get this right. After two thousand years, we should be chomping down grilled filet steak. Instead, we “have come to need milk … again.”
Likely, most people will stick with the stuff in the box, too weak in faith, the conviction of the truth, to make the commitment to God’s word. Sadly, the man-made traditions, the cares of our daily lives, and the myriad of diversions our society has to offer us are too great an obstacle to overcome. So lukewarm, we settle for mediocrity and lies.
If we are willing, it’s not too late to ditch the stuff in the box. And we can go straight to the source, our farmer with the dairy cows. “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” [1 Tim. 2:5; also read Mat. 7:7-12]. Regardless of our years in the flesh, like newborn infants, we should “desire the sincere milk of the word, that we may grow thereby.” [See the Feature article, Christianity: Not A Surrogate For Christ].
1 Black Friday is now moving into Thanksgiving Day. [Black Thanksgiving]. Thanksgiving was a day set aside to give thanks to God for our national blessings. [US- Thanksgiving; Canada- Thanksgiving 2]. Despite some resistence, it is in the process of becoming the merchandising day of the year. We can't serve God and mammon. As a society, we are throwing our lot in with mammon with the telling results.
